Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art Show - Thursday, 6/5/08

I got back to the park about 4:30 to let Pat off, and it seemed like today was hotter and stickier than yesterday. Artist Carol Gardner and I are wondering just how "fresh" we will look tomorrow evening at Courtyard Art Gallery during the French Quarter Art Walk from 5 pm - 8 pm. I told Carol nobody will care how bedraggled we may look as long as we wear Vintage Ray-Ban and Givenchy Sunglasses...

My special treat for this evening was a gift from my cousin in Tennesse, Joyce Whaley Inge, who had concert tickets tonight to hear Bartok, Debussy & Stravinsky by the Spoleto Festival USA Orchestra, and who was unable to come to the Festival this year:

Pie Mikell, my cousin I grew up with at Edisto, and I went and we both enjoyed it. I loved just "being" - just letting the music wash over me - no responsibility on my part, and no response required from me except to sit and enjoy it. It was a wonderfully refreshing experience, and I especially enjoyed the Stravinsky - near the end, moving toward the crescendo, I suddenly opened my eyes to see the orchestra with their arm movements and instruments as a picture of birds beginning to take flight, and something deep within was energized. Thanks, Joyce - what a special gift this was!
