Bird on a Ledge
10x10"
Mixed Media on Gallery Wrap Canvas
$175
Last night was our last Wednesday evening worship service at St. Andrews until August 29, and this painting was inspired by some of the bird, wall and stone pictures I took in Israel. The ledge in real life is quite high and I thought about how so many things right now seem to be "right on the edge". This could be good and this could also be not good, depending on the situation. In any event, we can't stay there forever. And we shouldn't.
Last Wednesday's worship or "real time" painting was also inspired by the Israel trip:
Fragments: Shepherds Field Cave
12x9"
Mixed Media on Gallery Wrap Canvas
$175
When we visited Bethlehem, we stopped at the Shepherds Field area in the vicinity where traditionally (1) the angel announced Christ's birth to the shepherds and (2) Ruth gleaned in the fields of Boaz. Steve Wood gave a homily in one of the surrounding old caves that has been altered as a small chapel. There was an ancient mosaic along one of the walls. Part of the mosaic top had been broken off, and I thought about how we get broken and retreat to our caves, but we can't stay there, we have to keep moving forward.
