Day 4 - Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art Exhibition

Third Place Award

Congratulations to Deborah Hill for
"Orange Floral"

Getting ready in Marion Square for Porgy and Bess!

Missed getting this post up yesterday because last night I saw "Porgy and Bess" for free (Thank you, Spoleto USA and Wells Fargo!) in Marion Square with hundreds of other "adventurers" - I was soaked, everyone was soaked but it didn't matter - the opera was worth every drop of rain to the bone! You can catch it free tonight on the grounds at West Ashley High School. Do. Not. Miss...

Some found shelter under big tents...
Mary Helen Dantzler and her husband "braving the weather" at Porgy and Bess.

Mary Helen (Two Sisters Tours) is a fellow licensed Charleston tour guide, as I am (Touring Charleston, SC). We just love sharing the history of our fabulous city!

Memorial Day Concert

The rains (see that dark cloud coming in above) didn't keep folks away from the annual concert - not only enjoyable but always moving, especially when you think of our men and women in uniform, putting themselves in harm's way, and especially those who have paid the ultimate price, all for your freedom and for mine.

Marion Hampton Whaley
1922 - 1995

My father, Marion Hampton Whaley, pictured above, was a fighter pilot in WWII, flew 125 missions, was shot down, wounded and survived to tell the story.  As his oldest child, I was presented the American flag and given his medals, including the Distinguished Flying Cross and the Purple Heart, at his funeral 21 years ago.  Thanks to all the men and women who serve our country in the armed forces.
