Madonna & Child

Madonna and Christ Child
(After Medieval Wall Painting in Great Britain)
18X18"
Original Mixed Media on Canvas
$400.00

I painted this Saturday at our St. Andrews Women's Retreat this weekend at Hilton Head - First, I prepped the canvas with molding paste which also served as the adhesive for all the good stuff I like to put into the foundation, like a little crushed frankincense and separately a little crushed myrrh and finally some healing dirt from Chimayo, New Mexico, a place known as the "Lourdes of America" (because of the healing miracles that occur there). As with anything, "the foundation is everything" - In art, the foundation, support and media are critical (just ask Leonardo about his "Last Supper" where he experimented with new techniques in wall painting - some experiments work and some don't...).
I left the painting to dry until the evening session, when I "painted" and then "unpainted" it to give it that worn and ancient look that I am so drawn to. It's all wonderfully messy, and I end up the most messy. After all, creativity is messy - just ask anyone who has ever been in my studio!
