Blogging Israel 2012 -Day 10

Watercolor Journal
The Treasury at the End of the Siq
Petra, Jordan

Our last full day in Israel, Saturday, March 24th, was spent traveling to Petra - we rose early, had breakfast, drove 15 minutes to the border crossing and spent 2 hours in no man's zone before we were allowed into Jordan. Then we drove 2 hours to Petra and walked down into the Siq. Unfortunately by the time we reached the Siq, we really were pushed for time and could not stay long seeing these fabulous tomb structures cut into the red rock centuries ago. As you walk down to the bottom of the Siq, that first glimpse of the red rock-carved Treasury takes your breath away, and the farther you come into this ancient tomb-world, there are more artistic wonders to be held - some made by humans, others unmistakably made by God. It would take days to explore Petra - I made the most of my 1 1/2 hours, photographing these works of art and the surrounding countryside.

Sunday we slept late and that afternoon headed back the Jerusalem way and proceeded onto the airport in Tel Aviv after saying goodbye to our (now) good friends, Jane our guide and Haim our driver - both individuals are gifted and excellent in their careers. Our plane arrived in Philadelphia this morning at 5:30 a.m. and we were home in Charleston by 12:00 noon. A great experience, I returned with the dust of Petra still clinging to me, tons of photographs from my travels and the gifts of renewing old friendships and making new ones.
