"Artist Helping the Community"
Local Piccolo Spoleto 2012 Outdoor Art Exhibitor
Hosts Painting Event for the Blind and Visually Impaired
Saturday, June 2, 2012
Marion Square, Charleston, SC
Danita Cole, Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art Exhibitor and local encaustic artist, is hosting an event at her art booth #75 (on Meeting Street side, near fountain) in Marion Square, Downtown Charleston this Saturday, June 2, for our local blind and Visually Impaired community. Everyone is invited to join Danita in learning how to paint using touch! While Encaustic painting is visually colorful to the sighted community, its wax colors produce tactile surfaces that can be appreciated using touch. Danita will be giving demonstrations and talks from 11 am until 2 pm. Danita Cole's youngest son was born prematurely and lost his eyesight as a consequence. Through her son's vision teachers and friends who are also blind/V.I., Danita has discovered that blind people can 'read' her paintings which are created using the ancient technique known as Encaustics. This event is being sponsored by the Danita Cole - Artist, Dixie Land Guide Dog Users, Inc., Music by Laurel Jean and Retina Consultants of Charleston.
Watch the video as Danita talks about encaustics and opening the door of art to the blind and visually impaired.
Please join Danita, friends and the artists in Marion Square this Saturday!
