Blogging Israel 2012 - Day 1
Watercolor Journal 3/15/12
Roman Ruins at Caesarea
I'm in Israel for several days gathering art resource material and watercolor journaling on a tour with my minister, Steve Wood, and a group from St. Andrews Mt. Pleasant. We arrived Wednesday afternoon and spent the evening in Tel Aviv - For the next few days we are experiencing kibbutz life here on the Galilee. Our first day of touring was Thursday, March 15th, and we spent a lot of time at Caesarea on the Mediterranean Sea. Voraciously taking pictures - working from some of my favorites - Although it was cloudy, chilly and the sea was roaring, I was inspired by all the stone of the Roman ruins around Caesarea- stones that have been in that place from the time of St. Paul's imprisonment in the first century. Although the sky was primarily gray instead of blue, and the waves continually crashed against the stone foundation of Herod's palace and other ruins jutting into the sea, there were glimpses now and then of a burst of blue sky. I find that the ancient stones remind me to look past the ruins and imagine life in this ancient seaport city.
