2014 Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art Exhibition - DAY 2

First Place!
"Blue Poppies" by Kathy Clark

Congratulations to Kathy Clark for her First Place Award for "Blue Poppies"!  I happened to be standing next to Kathy yesterday when the Mayor arrived to award the 2014 Ribbons, and while she knew she had won an award, she had no idea what award it was.  When Mayor Riley called out the last Merit award, I looked at Kathy and said "your award is one of the big four" and she just kind of looked at me as that sank in.  Then the Mayor called 3rd place. and then 2nd place, and then the Mayor was calling her name for First Place, and I was just thrilled for her.  It's an emotional time - around 4:30 p.m. on the first day of a 16 day outdoor art show, you're tired and hot - then you find you have won an award and then the adrenaline kicks in and I think you go through the rest of the ceremony in a kind of shock.  A good kind of shock, and then cawhen you find out it's First Place, it's just the right kind of shock that every artist wants!

Bobby and Sue Hinkle

Lots of time to visit with friends when the weather is nice and you're camped out with your art in the park. Bobby and Sue Hinkle came by to visit yesterday and today I saw lots of friends but we were all too busy for me to remember to take a photograph - oh, well...

Later today my cousin Leslie Whaley Hall and her husband, Adam, and their son Connor came by to visit - don't you just love this family picture:
