Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art Exhibition 2014: DAY 1 - AWARD WINNERS!

2014 Mayor's Award
"Dare to Dream" by Artist Bob Graham
Mayor Joseph P. Riley, Jr. with Bob Graham and "Dare to Dream"

Congratulations, Bob!  This painting is an original drawing under glass, and so we amateur photographers apologize for the glare.  Bob Graham has great talent, but what's even stronger than his talent is his heart for people, and that's what takes his art to a higher level.  He is able to communicate so much more than a strong and visual likeness.  I come away knowing something of the essence of Bob's subjects.  Come visit us all at Marion Square over the next 15 days, and make sure you stop by  Bob's Booth #83 and meet "Dare to Dream"!

 First Day Parking Lot Glitch
Monnie and Leslie Johnson, with Elaine Berlin to the Rescue!

There are always glitches the first day, and as artists we learn to roll with the punches...So we get the parking lot and can't get in. But no worries, Leslie Johnson, Co-coordinator, knows exactly how to get this resolved.  That's the easy part of the problem...the hard part was waiting there until we found an artist that actually had a rope or bungee in their car so we could tie back the gate and sure enough Chris Markham and K.C. Collins drove in and resolved the tieback problem!

Ready to meet the Joys and Challenges of Day 1

From a customer's or visitor's point of view, we artists probably come across as "having it all together" - of course, they are CLUELESS to how organized you have to be to project the "effortless, artful ambiance".  Not to mention the fact that organizational thinking does not often operate side by side with the creative spirit - but we artists can be trained and we find props that make it all easier - like the little wagon that transports all the important daily stuff (like coolers, picnic baskets, donuts, etc.) from the parking lot to the art booth.

Stay tuned to get the breaking news from the artists "on the ground" at the PSOAE (Piccolo Spoleto Outdoor Art Exhibition).
